Available Qualities & Formats

When a public Threads post contains multiple encoded versions of a video, this tool lists each one as a separate quality option so you can pick the file size and resolution that suits you.

QualityTypical UseFormat
HDBest available quality attached to the postMP4
SDSmaller file size, faster downloadMP4
OriginalUnmodified source file, when exposed by the postMP4

Not every post exposes all three tiers — the tool only shows the qualities that are actually available for that specific post.

What Kind of Videos Can You Download?

This downloader works with any video attached directly to a public Threads post — that includes videos recorded and uploaded natively in the app, video clips reposted from other platforms, and videos attached to replies within a public thread. What it can't do is pull video out of a linked article, an embedded YouTube player, or any content that lives outside Threads itself and is only referenced by a link in the post text.

Reposts (Threads' version of a retweet/reshare) are treated the same as original posts: if the repost link is public and the attached video is still available, it can be downloaded the same way.

Picking a Quality

If the post you're downloading offers more than one option, a rough rule of thumb: choose HD if you plan to watch the file on a larger screen, edit it, or repost it somewhere that will compress it further anyway (compression stacks, so starting from a higher-quality source usually looks better after a second pass). Choose SD if you're downloading a lot of clips, have limited storage, or are on a slow connection — it downloads faster and takes up less space with only a modest drop in sharpness. Original, when available, is the unmodified file Threads itself stored, and is usually the closest to what the original creator uploaded.

Downloader vs. Screen Recording

Screen-recording a video playing in the Threads app is the fallback most people reach for when they don't know a downloader tool exists, but it comes with real downsides: the output is re-encoded from whatever your screen displayed (lower quality, often with visible compression artifacts), it captures at your device's refresh rate rather than the video's native frame rate, and it picks up any on-screen UI, notifications, or audio interruptions that happen mid-recording. A downloader instead pulls the actual video file Threads has stored, so what you get is the real source — same resolution, same frame rate, no UI in the corner of the frame.
